I don’t need every story told in a linear fashion, and I don’t always mind an ambiguous ending. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the story seems almost incidental to the craft of filmmaking, like the actual plot-such as it is-is used as an excuse to string together a lot of random, often beautiful images and pretend you’re watching a narrative instead of a two and a half hour music video. Visuals can be compelling, and I can be moved by or otherwise enjoy them, but I primarily look at film as a medium to tell stories. As a writer, my focus is heavily on story, plot, character, and dialogue. I, on the other hand, do not tend to like avant-garde films. (Note: you may or may not consider 2001: A Space Odyssey to be truly avant-garde, but I don’t think anyone can deny there’s at least an avant-garde influence.) The story is not nearly as important as the medium you’re using to tell it. People who tend to like avant-garde work, I think, are generally more interested in the visuals than in the message. That sounds snotty, but it really does seem to come down to a fundamental viewpoint on filmmaking. Why? Well, generally, I like my movies to make sense. No, I simply cannot imagine ever liking this movie, no matter how many second chances (or third or fifth or twentieth chances) I gave it.Ģ. I will attempt to do justice to the parts of the film that I could see were well done, but. But I really, really, really did not like it. I mean, I guess it’s possible, but I don’t see how. This doesn’t strike me as the kind of movie you can have a middle ground on. We still have to define an field in the Address class. We’ve also added the annotation, which indicates that the primary key of the User entity is used as the foreign key value for the associated Address entity. The mappedBy attribute is now moved to the User class since the foreign key is now present in the address table. The problem is if I allow the foreign key to be null by ticking the option NULL in phpMyAdmin, it will not be able to create a foreign key constraint because the column of the two table are not the same. Thanks a lot Yaroslav, it was really the UNSIGNED missing, thanks a lot. What you need to do is: In the original table go into the relations view and choose which column to display (for example the descriptive name of the row ie: company name) In the table where you wish to create the foreign key choose the column to. The other is the comma at the end of the foreign key definition. As mentioned, pmadb does have to be set up however I found that this is set automatically. Currently, we have only verified Meltdown on Intel processors. We successfully tested Meltdown on Intel processor generations released as early as 2011. More technically, every Intel processor which implements out-of-order execution is potentially affected, which is effectively every processor since 1995 (except Intel Itanium and Intel Atom before 2013). Which systems are affected by Meltdown?ĭesktop, Laptop, and Cloud computers may be affected by Meltdown. There is also work to harden software against future exploitation of Spectre, respectively to patch software after exploitation through Spectre ( LLVM patch, MSVC, ARM speculation barrier header). There are patches against Meltdown for Linux ( KPTI (formerly KAISER)), Windows, and OS X. Has Meltdown or Spectre been abused in the wild? This may include passwords and sensitive data stored on the system. If your system is affected, our proof-of-concept exploit can read the memory content of your computer. However, your antivirus may detect malware which uses the attacks by comparing binaries after they become known. Unlike usual malware, Meltdown and Spectre are hard to distinguish from regular benign applications. While possible in theory, this is unlikely in practice. Can my antivirus detect or block this attack? The exploitation does not leave any traces in traditional log files. Can I detect if someone has exploited Meltdown or Spectre against me? Questions & Answers Am I affected by the vulnerability? It can also cause pain in the upper right abdominal region, which can radiate to the shoulder or back. More commonly known as a gallbladder attack, this condition may cause scleral icterus as a gallstone can block the bile duct. Once this is done, the eye color will return to normal. To stop or prevent scleral icterus, the root cause must be determined and treated. This can happen before, during, or after the expected processing in the liver, depending on the underlying cause behind the liver function failure. Scleral Icterus Causesĭue to improper functioning of the liver, the bilirubin is not expelled, and it remains in the blood to circulate throughout the body, including the eyes. This coloring can fall into one of three classifications: pre-hepatic, hepatic, and post-hepatic scleral icterus. It causes the whites of the eyes to darken, ranging from a bright yellow to dark orange color. It is important to note that scleral icterus is a symptom and not a disease or disorder. When the liver is not working as expected, the bilirubin levels increase in the blood, resulting in scleral icterus. Bilirubin is orange and yellow in color, and is created by the breakdown of red blood cells. It is linked to liver disorders as bilirubin, a pigment, passes through the organ before being expelled from the body. What Is Scleral Icterus?Ī classic scleral icterus definition refers to the excessive presence of bilirubin in the bloodstream, causing the yellowish coloration of the eyes. We will look at the symptom referred to as scleral icterus and other symptoms that may be associated with the conditions behind it. The discoloration may be resolved once the condition itself is treated or at least managed under close medical supervision. Scleral icterus can also be the sign of an obstruction of blood flow preventing the body from eliminating its waste. If you notice the whites of your eyes, or the sclera, suddenly turn a shade of yellow, take heed, as it may indicate an underlying health problem with your liver. By contrast, East Coast hip hop had moved to prioritizing the lyricist (or "MC") after the success of Run-DMC's self-titled 1984 album. Until 1988, the Los Angeles hip hop scene, retaining more of hip hop's dance and party origin, prioritized DJs and DJ crews as the central players in hip hop the prevailing style at the time was electro rap and "funk hop", similar to the New York-based 1982 hit " Planet Rock". Background įor most of the 1980s, New York City, the birthplace of hip hop, remained the rap genre's dominant scene. The next year, the Library of Congress enshrined Straight Outta Compton in the National Recording Registry, who have deemed it to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". In 2016, it became the first rap album inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2015, after an album reissue on red cassettes, theater release of the biographical film Straight Outta Compton reinvigorated sales of the album, which by year's end was certified 3x Multi-Platinum. Nearing the album's 20th anniversary, another extended version of it arrived in December 2007. Remastered, the album's September 2002 reissue gained four bonus tracks. Receiving media spotlight, N.W.A's example triggered the rap genre's movement toward hardcore, gangsta rap. That year, the album peaked at number 9 on Billboard 's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and at number 37 on the Billboard 200. In July 1989, despite its scarce radio play beyond the Los Angeles area, Straight Outta Compton received gangsta rap's first platinum certification, one million copies sold by then. The track " Fuck tha Police" drew an FBI agent's warning letter, which aided N.W.A's notoriety, with N.W.A calling itself "the world's most dangerous group." Not merely depicting Compton's street violence, the lyrics repeatedly threaten to lead it by attacking peers and even police. Dre, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince, with lyrics written by N.W.A members Ice Cube and MC Ren along with Ruthless rapper The D.O.C. Released by his label, Ruthless Records, on August 8, 1988, the album was produced by N.W.A members Dr. Straight Outta Compton is the debut studio album by American gangsta rap group N.W.A, which, led by Eazy-E, formed in Los Angeles County's City of Compton in early 1987. Of the characters, only Eddie and Venom engage and intrigue, the rest are flat. Riz Ahmed is far too anaemic for the one-dimensional villain that's both cartoonish and insipid. Michelle Williams has never had a flatter character than here and is basically wasted in a development-free plot-device role. However, the rest of the cast don't fare so greatly. Tom Hardy is intensely charismatic, with Eddie/Venom being interesting and well contrasted characters, far more believable than Topher Grace in 'Spiderman 3'. The music has pleasant moments and fits well while there is some exciting action, especially the car chase sequence. It looks reasonably good, well designed and shot with slickness and atmosphere. The darker elements of the film are actually quite well done, having a dark grit and creepiness. It is when Venom arrives on screen too when the film properly starts to generate interest, after too long struggling to invest in the first act. It is at its best in the scenes and chemistry between Eddie and Venom, which had fun and tension. Am not though going to join in the irritatingly excessive critic bashing from people who really need to start learning the difference between fact and opinion. Was aware that it was not well liked by the critics, but part of me was really hoping to disagree with the thought that could a film with so much potential be worse than it actually looked? Have to agree with those that were left disappointed, while also not finding 'Venom' to be that bad. Watched 'Venom' with reasonably high expectations and with the willingness, as always, to judge the film for myself and form my own opinion. 'Venom' also had talented people in the cast, Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams have both done great work in their careers, it looked interesting and found myself really fascinated to watch an origins story of one of the most interesting anti-heroes in the superhero universe. If it weren't for Hardy's performance as Venom, the SSU's plans would not be possible.Do have a fondness for superhero films. The SSU will continue to expand over the years, with movies like Kraven the Hunter and series such as the announced Silk: Spider Society and Spider-Man Noir show. Sony's Spider-Man Universe weirdly focuses on Spider-Man villains as anti-heroes, a trend that Hardy's successful Venom proved was possible. If that ends up being the case, Hardy has left a mark on Marvel movies. With Venom 3 set to arrive in 2024, Hardy could potentially be nearing the end of his time as the Marvel character. The actor's performance as the troubled Eddie Brock is magnetic, and it matches up brilliantly with the actor's voice role as Venom, creating one of the more compelling relationships in superhero movies. For his part, Hardy responded to Sony's belief in him by giving it his all in the two Venom movies so far. Hardy's Venom stands as the founding character of an entire cinematic universe, with Sony's Spider-Man Universe using his Eddie Brock in the same role that the MCU featured Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in. While the actor could return in a future movie during the MCU's Multiverse Saga to finally interact with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Hardy's legacy in Marvel movies is safe even if that never happens. Hardy's Venom is not part of the MCU, even though he appeared in Marvel Studios' universe for short cameos during Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene as well as Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene. Depending on the types of current liabilities driving the excess of current assets in evaluating a company, one should look at trends in its working capital over time to assess its ability to manage its short-term finances. Conversely, a company with negative working capital (excluding cash) may indicate that they are either able to convert collections to cash efficiently (which is good) or may struggle to meet its short-term financial obligations. A company with positive working capital (excluding cash) may be indicative of the requirement for the company to keep cash invested or tied up in non-cash items such as inventory or receivables. However, as a common practice, most M&A deals are negotiated and analyzed on a cash-free, debt-free basis (long-term debt), which means cash is always excluded from working capital. Working capital is the difference between a company's current assets (e.g., cash, receivables and inventory) and its current liabilities (e.g., accounts payable and short-term debt). If a company's CapEx is consistently higher than its operating cash flow, it may be a sign that the company is investing too heavily in long-term assets or that performance is insufficient to maintain longer-term investment requirements. Accounting professionals compare a company's CapEx to its operating cash flow to see if it is spending more than it generates in cash from operations. Capital expenditures (CapEx) are the funds that a company spends on property, plant and equipment (PP&E) and other long-term assets. It is worth noting that operating cash flow should be observed over multiple capital investment cycles to ensure that it is sufficient to meet reinvestment needs over the long term. Accounting/finance professionals often look at trends in operating cash flow over time to see if a company is generating consistent cash flows from its core operations. Operating cash flow is the amount of cash that a company generates from its operations, including cash that is collected from customers and paid to employees and vendors. Here are some factors to consider when evaluating a company's free cash flow: One often-utilized metric is free cash flow (FCF), which is the cash that a company generates after accounting for capital expenditures necessary to maintain or expand its operations and service the company’s current debt. Therefore, while EBITDA can be a useful metric for evaluating a company's profitability, it is important to remember that it should be viewed alongside numerous other considerations to reflect a company's true financial picture. This means that relying solely on EBITDA to value a business could lead to an inaccurate assessment of its financial health. A company with high debt levels might have lower cash flows than a company with lower debt levels, even with the same EBITDA. This is often the case in certain industries that require a substantial amount of capital expenditure (e.g., manufacturing), resulting in higher depreciation expenses and driving EBITDA and cash flow further apart.Īnother limitation of EBITDA is that it does not consider a company's debt levels. This means that a company with a strong EBITDA might not necessarily have strong cash flows. EBITDA can be artificially inflated by non-cash items such as depreciation and amortization, which do not impact a company's cash flow (although they do represent a level of capital spending that may be required which is a cash outflow). One of the biggest limitations of using EBITDA to value a business is that by itself it does not appropriately reflect the company's financial health or performance. Negative cash flows, on the other hand, can lead to business failure, especially if prolonged. Positive cash flows allow a company to invest in new equipment, pay off debts and fund research and development. While EBITDA can be useful for assessing a company's financial performance, it is important to understand its limitations and the critical role that cash flow plays in evaluating a business.Ĭash flow (specifically free cash flow) refers to the actual cash that a business generates, and that flow is crucial for a company's survival and growth. The latter was designed to be a proxy for a company’s operating cash flow and is independent of how a company is capitalized, meaning it does not consider the company’s capital structure or financing decisions. Two of the most commonly used metrics are cash flow and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA). When it comes to valuing a business, there are several metrics that accounting and finance professionals use. |
